George (1737–1788), 4th Duke of Manchester George (1737–1788), 4th Duke of Manchester, was Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of England, one of two governing bodies of Freemasonry in England in the eighteenth and early nineteenth century, from 1777 to 1782. In this portrait he is wearing the robes and holding the white wand of a lord chamberlain, an office he held from 1782 to 1783.
